Case Study No. 9
The Problem: A charming detached bungalow with open views over the countryside suffered from extremely motor vehicle unfriendly access and the need to turn 90 degrees to use the garage. The concrete apron to the front of the garage door was simply not wide enough for even the smallest of cars to enter and leave the garage without a great deal of shunting backwards and forwards. The result was that the garage was only used for storage. Reversing from the apron onto the road infringed the “Planning Consent condition for all vehicle movements to and from the road” since these should be made in a forward direction.
The Solution:
The 3.5M (11’6”) diameter CPS car turntable with powered rotation and in-car control, sited in front of the garage door enabled the owner to drive in forwards and park on the turntable, push one button on the handset to turn 90 degrees providing accurate positioning for garaging. By turning 180 degrees it was a simple matter to return to the road in a forward direction. The second button on the handset controls the opening and closing of the garage doors.
The owners were delighted when a local estate agent advised them that the turntable had already added some £25,000 to the value of the property. A sound investment when the initial brief was just to fulfil the Planning Consent Conditions and to be able to park the car in the garage overnight.
